About dark lip neutralisation

Dark lip neutralisation is a specialised treatment for those with dark toned lips in which we colour correct and neutralise the darkness in the lips. We use advanced colour theory to even out the dark and cool tones In the lips. This leaves the lips lighter and more even toned.

Dark lip neutralisation is for those that are a Fitzpatrick scale 3-6. This can include people who have heritage in asia, Africa, Polynesia, south American, first nations and the Mediterranean. Dark Lip neutralisation is for any personal with an abundant amount of melanin in their skin and lips.

We neutralise and correct by using colour theory! With our extensive knowledge of colour theory we are able to correct lips that are uneven in colour, brown/ purple toned, cool toney or grey looking, lowly saturated, dark in value, wrinkled/ texturized and thick and lips that only have darkness around the rims of the lips.

What is Dark Lip Neutralisation?

DLN is a specialised treatment for those with dark toned lips in which we colour correct and neutralise the darkness in the lips. We use our advanced colour theory knowledge to even out the dark and cool tones in the lips. This leaves the lips lighter and more even toned.

Who is DLN for?

DLN is for those with melanin rich lips. This can include people who have heritage in Asia, Africa, Polynesia, South American, First Nations and the Mediterranean.

How do I know if I have Dark Lips?

Dark Lips can look like Lips that are: Uneven in colour, Brow/ Purple toned, Cool Toned or Grey looking, Lowly Saturated, Dark in value, Wrinkled/ Texturised/ Thick, Darker around the rims of the Lips.

How do you neutralise and Correct the Lips?

We use Colour Theory! With our extensive knowledge of colour theory we are able to use complimentary colours to cancel out and neutralise darkness. When we asses your lips we must know its hue, saturation and value in order to carefully select what colours to use to neutralise the lips. This knowledge helps select the correct pigment to provide the best healed results according to your desired goal.

How many sessions will I need?

Most of our clients have needed 2-3 sessions to achieve complete correction. When we see you for your first session we can estimate a ballpark number. However no two dark lips are the same and will require a different number of sessions to achieve your desired outcome.

What does the healing process look like?

Immediately After your lips will appear swollen and orange in colour. Days 1-7 your lips will begin to peel (leave these scabs in tact – do not pick) peeling is a normal phase of the healing process. Weeks 2-5 your lip colour will go through phases of colour change, this can include temporary hypo or hyper pigmentation, this is where parts of the lips may appear darker or lighter in colour. Weeks 5-7 your colour will start to even out as the darkness starts to dissipate in the lips. Weeks 7-10 darkness will mostly be gone. Week 10+ you are invited to come back for your second session to complete the neutralisation process.

Who is NOT suitable for DLN?

DLN is NOT suitable if….

You are pregnant or breastfeeding
You are prone to keloid scaring
You are taking medications like: blood thinning medications, steroid or antibiotics.
You are taking Accutane (acne mediation) or have done so in the last 3 months leading up to your appointment.

PRE & POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS

PRE CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Follow Pre-care instructions to ensure the best outcome for your final results.

1 MONTH BEFORE APPOINTMENT

Avoid Filler & Botox in the lips and surrounding area Skin Exfoliants, Laser and Chemical peels.

2 WEEKS BEFORE APPOINTMENT

Discontinue Antibiotics (do not discontinue any medication before consulting with your doctor first)
If you are prone to coldsores you must be taking an antiviral medication to prevent a cold sore flare up.
Keep your lips as hydrated as possible, drink plenty of water.
Use a gentle lip scrub x2 a week leading up to your appointment in tandem with a hydrating lip balm.

48 HOURS BEFORE APPOINTMENT

Avoid Blood Thinners such as: Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Caffeine (coffee&tea), Alcohol, Vitamin E and Fish oil.

AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

To ensure pigment retention and desired result it is important to follow aftercare instructions. Don’t expect your lips to heal perfectly after the first session, lips are a two step process.

IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING YOUR TREATMENT YOUR LIPS WILL APPEAR DARKER & BOLDER IN COLOUR. THE AREA MAY ALSO BE SWOLLEN AND FEEL TENDER. THIS IS NORMAL.

WHEN YOU GET HOME, CLEAN HANDS & LIGHTLY DAB THE AREA WITH A WARM SOAKED COTTON PAD TO ABSORB THE ACCESS FLUID BUILD UP ON YOUR LIPS THEN FOLLOW WITH YOUR AFTERCARE.

NEXT 7 DAYS APPLY YOUR AFTERCARE OINTMENT WITH CLEAN HANDS USING A COTTON TIP.

LIGHTLY DAB THE OINTMENT ONTO THE LIPS MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY. DO NOT LET THE LIPS DRY OUT.

AVOID GETTING WATER/ CREAMS/ SOAPS/ MAKEUP ON YOUR LIPS FOR THE NEXT 7 DAYS.

AVOID – NEXT 2 WEEKS

✕ humidity/ heat/ exessive sweating.

✕ hot steamy showers/ baths/ spas/ saunas.

✕ swimming in pool or ocean.

✕ touching, picking, rubbing the lips.

✕ kissing (2-3 days)

✕ lip scrubs or paw paw ointment.

✕ lip botox or filler (next 4 weeks)
